# Summary
Performative assembly is a pragmatic, cost-effective and engaging version of a citizen assembly, conducted in the manner of a local community event or a school play. Leveraging the statistical chain reaction methodology of the Rimini protocol, a performative assembly is assembled using an algorithm. This algorithm is designed to ensure diversity and inclusivity, and can be tailored to show stakeholder engagement or to gauge the opinion of a local or a specific population. The algorithm begins by picking a person, who then picks another person, and this continues until the required number of people have been assembled. An onboarding process ensures that the demographics needed for the assembly are covered. The onboarding process involves an app, which is designed to make the experience engaging and human. The app pulls demographic data to ensure a balanced cohort for the jury, and it can also include questions on cognitive styles. The app also ensures that the recruitment of the assembly is gamified, making it engaging and fun. Once the assembly is organized, individuals can share their stories, which can either be shared with each other or amalgamated into a documentary. The process ensures the protection of personal data through encryption and anonymisation. Performative assembly also uses AI, including voice cloning, AI cartoon characters and AI voice synthesis, for further anonymisation and to facilitate participation in different languages.

A performative assembly is essentially a citizen assembly conducted in a practical and enjoyable manner that is also cost-effective. Citizen assemblies, as you may know, are randomly selected juries, or sortition, and are traditionally expensive to organize due to the administrative costs involved. These can include sending out a large number of phone calls and letters to random people, securing a venue and accommodation, and covering travel expenses. However, a performative assembly is different. It operates much like any local community event or school play, making it more affordable. I envision incorporating performative assemblies into our operations for Hitchhikers.earth, the arts application, and the Exodus idea for North Wales. They would form the foundation of citizen participation, engagement, and outreach for the Pool Hamlin grant application. While other outreach methods are more technical, such as radio broadcasts or app downloads, performative assemblies are about the physical events that take place in spaces like the Astral Ship, in schools, universities, and the local area. They would essentially be self-organized citizen assemblies, henceforth referred to as performative assemblies to distinguish them. A performative assembly functions via the statistical chain reaction methodology of Rimini Protocol, a theatre group I am familiar with. They have given me permission to use this algorithm that they developed for their series of performances called 100% city. I plan to incorporate this algorithm into our platform, app, and governance structure. This would allow us to demonstrate the diversity of our stakeholders and understand the opinions of local or specific populations through these citizen assemblies or performative assemblies. The algorithm works by assembling a group of people, let's say 100, and having each person choose another until the group is complete. The onboarding process collects the demographic data required for a particular assembly. This could be local residents near the Astral Ship, scientists interested in artificial intelligence and ethics, or Ukrainians living in Wales. The app provides the tools to create the onboarding interview, which collects relevant information based on demographic data. During this process, we take great care to protect people's personal data, using encryption, anonymization, and self-sovereign identity. This is one of our key areas of expertise. The app can also use AI voice cloning, performative theatre, legislative theatre, and playback theatre techniques within the context of a citizen assembly to create a voice and a performance. This could be used to re-enact various scenarios or situations, such as how a community might respond to the arrival of a refugee. The performance is then broadcast on radio and social media platforms, offering a platform for discussion and engagement. All of this is incorporated into the app, making it easy for anyone who wants to conduct a local poll or consultation to do so. In summary, a performative assembly is a cost-effective, engaging, and representative way of gathering people's opinions on various issues. It combines traditional citizen assembly techniques with modern technology to ensure a diverse and inclusive process.
