Federated Participation

An important and distinctive element of the architecture modern technology empowers us to realise is the federated nature of engagment ande participation. A federated event enables people of diverse cultures, languages, interests and demographics to take place. Such engagement is not possible should we be required to bring everyone together in the same location.

Communites of interest can gather, in their own space and at a time that suits their context. They can converse and engage with the performance using norms that are natural for their cultural context.

Young people could meet in a night club, university or on a beech. Older generations, or scientists, or lawyers, or miners can meet in the locations that make them feel comfortable and the gatherings can be convened in a manor that encourages them to participate. A single common venue is always a time constrained compromise of interests. An this is sying nothing about the cost.

Given a budget the depth, of the participation, the fequency and amount of time engageing the audience and the quanity and quality of faciitation, documentation and mediation is several multiples of a similar engagement where we are required to fly audiences and accomodate them at a single venue. Hybrid meetings (see bleow) also allow people to be engaged online.

And then there si the diversity of modailties of engagement that are possible when federated communities are empowered to self-organise their own events. One location might prioritise theatre, another dance, and and yet another ritual. When more than text and talking heads are engaged, it opens up new possibilites for embodying the voices of Oceans, Forests, Future Generations, Ancestors, AIs, and Aliens.
